I’m putting together an original band based in Lenexa, Kansas and am looking for musicians in their early to mid-20s who are serious about writing, recording, and eventually performing original music.
The sound lives somewhere between shoegaze, mathrock, Midwest emo, J-rock, and even touches of bossa nova-inspired rhythms.
Some influences:
* My Bloody Valentine
* toe
* the cabs
* MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS
* Uchu Conbini
* Hitohira
* Chouchou Merged Syrups
* A Picture of Her
My long-term goal is to create music with the emotional impact and musicianship of modern Japanese rock/midwest emo—something that could feel at home as an anime opening while still having its own identity. I interned in the Japanese music industry during the summer of 2024, and eventually I’d like to take this project as far as it can take us!
I play a baritone guitar with a unique setup that covers bass movement, chords, melody, ambience, rhythm, and lead simultaneously, so I’m not looking for another guitarist. A bassist is optional depending on how the music develops.
The drummer is the most important piece. I’m looking for someone with excellent dynamics, strong time, and musical sensitivity. Jazz experience is a huge plus. Comfort with odd meters, polyrhythms, brushes, ghost notes, and playing softly is far more important than simply playing loud or fast.
A keyboardist/synth player would also be an excellent fit—especially someone interested in textures, sound design, samples, loops, or live electronics alongside traditional keys.
I also sing, with a breathy baritone/tenor range. I’m not looking to hand off all vocal duties, but I think having both male and female vocals would open up a much broader emotional palette. Depending on the song, either vocalist could take the lead, with plenty of room for harmonies, vocal interplay, and shared arrangements.
I have an extensive collection of recording gear, microphones, amps, pedals, and instruments. We can rehearse in my garage, and I have a dedicated studio right next to it for recording demos and developing ideas.
If you’re into anime, Japanese music, creative songwriting, odd time signatures, and building something distinctive from the ground up, send me a message with what you play, your influences, and any recordings if you have them.
