They CAN be separated
We have 2 very friendly miniature pigs. Petunia (AKA Bitty Bits, as in bacon bits) has had one litter of 6, she needed no help birthing and raised all to half of full size before they were taken to auction. She was an excellent mother and searched for them, for months after.
He (Wilber) was very tolerant of the babies from about 2 weeks on... That is the age when they began breaking out of the brooder cage...
They do not need to go together. She is better at being a pet than him. They have been outdoor pets in my yard for 2 years now. They are too pushy for little kids, but have done fine with a 10 year old.
