RARE SET of 6 vintage Gilbert-Robinson EGG CUPS in perfect condition - a must-have for collectors of vintage dishware. Restaurants associated with Gilbert/Robinson in its heyday included: Houlihan's, Fred P. Ott's, Annie's Santa Fe, Bristol Bar & Grill, and Plaza III Steakhouse. The founders include Bill Gilbert, Paul Robinson, and the late Joe Gilbert. In 1940, Joe Gilbert won the restaurant contract at Kansas City's Municipal Air Terminal.The new restaurant at the Municipal Air Terminal, believed to be the most elaborately appointed and equipped on any air route in the United States (Kansas City Times, Nov 9, 1940). These darling little egg cups are from this early Gilbert-Robinson era and marked with the GR logo in blue.
Gilbert partnered with the former manager of the Fred Harvey restaurant at Kansas City's Union Station. Together, they created a Harvey-esque enterprise for air travel, providing classy and affordable dining along flight routes.
